Bad News For The Music Industry – Peer-To-Peer Hits The iPhone – Yarrrrr!

May 19, 2008

A new application is born – going by the name of iSlsk, the tiny application is a very nice native port of the (fairly unknown) P2P software SoulSeek – it allows you to search the entire peer-to-peer network from the palm of your hand and download music and files directly to your phone for use afterwards. It sports a solid interface and is said to be very stable. Expect a full verdict soon.

Available now via Installer.app.

3G iPhone: What We’ve Heard So Far

3g iphone?

Could this actually be the 3G iPhone? Maybe.

The iPhone doesn’t cost three g’s, but it’ll soon support 3G. Ok – that was seriously lame – and with that, I bring to you… The 3G iPhone: What We’ve Heard So Far.

It all started when AT&T’s CEO Randall Stephenson blurted out this when asked about the possibility of a 3G iPhone:

You’ll have it next year.

It was obvious we would get a 3G iPhone eventually, but this statement just backed up everything we’d been hearing. After this, the interweb went shit-stirringly mental, with stories popping up daily about how awesome the next-gen i(jesus)Phone is going to be.

So time went on, and we entered “next year” – as to be expected, the rumours were coming in from left and right. There are so many of these rumours its become pretty hard to keep track of what has been said – here’s what we’ve heard so far…

  • 3G Support (holy shit batman) with the ability to fall back to Edge.
  • GPS – you know, for actual tracking. None of this cell tower malarkey which to this day still displays my house being in the middle of a nearby fucking lake.
  • Video Chat Mirror Thing; Kevin Rose brought this up in a recent episode of Diggnation – apparently he has an ‘inside guy’ who has told him the camera on the iPhone will be in the same place it is now, except it will be ‘like a mirror’ where it can record from either end, so that you can do voice calls and all that cool stuff. Interesting.
  • Avaliable in all black or all white. No more aluminium back. Nice and glossy.
  • Faster CPU, more memory.
  • Reports of a larger screen by Intel; possibly confusion, as most other rumours out there state the screen is the same size.

So there you have it; that’s what we know so far. Obviously, none of this is confirmed, but most of it may as well be.

The Future’s Bright

There are ten new countrys which will get the almighty mobile device; Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and last but not least, Switzerland.

What is also interesting however is that Swisscom also announced recently they had signed a deal with Apple to sell the iPhone in Switzerland; will we begin to see multiple carriers of the iPhone?

iPhone First Gen Production Stopped? We think so…

damn you john appleseed

iPhone: Missing In Action – John Appleseed to blame?

We knew it would happen sooner or later with the arrival of a second-gen iPhone just around the corner, but we didn’t think it would happen this soon. It seems Apple has completely halted production of all first gen phones; both the 8gb, and the not-so-long-ago-released 16gb model.

It started with O2 in the UK, who announced that they were slashing the price of both models of the iPhone, resulting in the bargain price of £179. Shortly after – boom, they’re out of stock.

Apple (yep – those guys) were soon to follow, as all iPhone stock vanished from both the US and UK Apple online and retail stores.

This can only mean one thing.

The 3G iPhone is coming – and fast.

PlayStation Emulator PSX4iPhone Gets A Much Needed Update

Legendary iPhone developer ZodTTD has just updated his horribly slow PlayStation Emulator, PSX4iPhone. The latest version is available right now on Installer and via his website. What’s changed, you ask? The speed. Yep, it’s about time. Based on feedback from users, a wide range of games such as Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil 3 are running at almost full speed – and those that are not quite there yet are still much more playable.

We’ll have a full review soon.
