Official Apple In-Store 3G iPhone Activator Leaked Onto The Web

June 29, 2008

An anonymous tipster has leaked what appears to be instructions for the Canadian iPhone launch on Rogers; including the link to a special version of iTunes which allows stores to ‘unlock’ their iPhone so that they can use them as a display unit in store.

The leaked document reads:

In order to unbrick the iPhone in store (which is a requirement of the iPhone Sales Process), you must have iTunes version 7.6.3b4. Installed on your computer. This version has a special ‘Activation Only Mode’ that must be enabled and used in store.

Pretty interesting stuff, though it would not really be that useful anyway; you’re still required to sign up for a contract to get the iPhone in most country’s.

You can see the full leak here.

AT&T Expanding 3G Coverage In June – What A Surprise…

May 22, 2008

3G coverage in the US

We’ve just got word that US cellular giant AT&T will be completeing it’s 3G rollout next month by rolling out coverage in six remaining markets; what a conincidence it is that we’re suppost to be getting a 3G iPhone around the same time… As of today, their 3G rollout is around 73% complete.

They went on to say “that it has 3G in 275 markets” and “by year-end, the AT&T 3G network will be available in nearly 350 markets.”

Sounds pretty good to us.

3G iPhone Release Date Pretty Much Confirmed

May 20, 2008

Ok, this still isn’t absolutely official, but it may as well be by now.

Sources close to the 3G iPhone launch have told Gizmodo that Apple will announce their new model at the WWDC Keynote on June 9th.

Gizmodo just dropped this little gem, which to be honest, isn’t really anything we didn’t suspect already. They continue however and mention that the second-generation iPhone should be avaliable worldwide by the 19th June. That’s pretty fast, but again, nothing we weren’t really expecting.

Dammit Apple, just say it already.

Apple Looking For Over-The-Air Downloads For 3G iPhone

A kinda-fresh new rumour has surfaced recently, and it’s quite an interesting one at that. Apparently, Apple are really fighting for a certain feature to be available to the second-gen iPhone users; over-the-air music downloads. Now, this is not entirely new – we can already download music wirelessly using iTunes, but this new deal would allow Apple to sell things like ringtones and other content also over the air, all using 3G.

Sounds neat, but according to the rumour, the record companies involved in the yet-to-be-finalised-and-entirely-speculated deal are asking for a higher premium for tracks than if you were to download them via traditional ways. Hum.
